HOW TO BE INVOLVED in WIND POWER

Mini and Small Wind Systems are affordable and can be used to reduce or eliminate your electrical utility bill, or to provide protection from power failures. And, of course, you will and should feel good about doing your part to lessen our reliance on fossil fuels.

Because they are small, these systems may be permitted in urban settings, on towers or rooftops. Depending on your region of Canada, Solaero Energy may be able to provide you with assistance and products, or we will refer you to reputable companies in your area. Please contact us for help.

The Canadian federal government and the Canadian Wind Energy Association offer advice and assistance. Your provincial and local government may also have ways to help with your project.

Large Wind Systems involve developing wind power on your rural property or investing in a company that will operate a wind farm or farms. Either way the experience can be exciting and financially rewarding.

Solaero Energy has a lot of experience in large systems. Solaero Energy's role is as a 'wind farm developer'. We look after wind studies, permits, electrical connections, equipment purchasing and financing. But in the end the owner/operator of the wind farm is a company made up of the land owners, community people, and/or any other interested investors.

There are some programs to support wind power. The Government of Canada has a feed-in tariff incentive called Wind Power Production Incentive (WPPI) and some income tax incentives. The government of Ontario has taken it a step further with their 'Standard Offer Contract' which is a feed-in tariff incentive for electricity generated from renewable energy. They offer an attractive rate of approximately $.11/kwh and eliminate the onerous process of negotiating a 'power purchase agreement' for each project. It is limited to wind farms of 10 megawatts or less which will encourage smaller players and a better distributed form of electrical generation.
